Report: Spurs man close to agreeing deal elsewhere despite being offered new contract

Sky Sports have revealed (14/01/22 at 15:08 on their live Transfer Centre blog) that Blackburn Rovers are close to completing a deal for Spurs starlet Dilan Markanday.

Markanday has been on fire for Tottenham’s Under-23s this season, with 12 goals and five assists in 14 Premier League 2 appearances to date.

The Spurs academy product made his first-team debut for the North Londoners’ in their 1-0 loss to Vitesse in the Europa Conference League back in October under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, it now looks like the 20-year-old could be on his way out of the club on a permanent basis.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray admitted earlier this week that Markanday fits the profile of player that the Championship club are after.

Sky Sports have now revealed that despite Tottenham offering the youngster a new contract, he is keen to play regular first-team football.

A number of Championship clubs are said to be interested in Markanday but it is Blackburn who are thought to be front-runners for his signature.

It is suggested that the attack-minded player is ‘close’ to completing a move to Ewood Park.

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpartick has revealed that the fee is expected to be around £500k upfront but could rise to over £1m with add-ons.

He also stated that Spurs want a significant sell-on clause added to the deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

It would be a real shame if Spurs lose a talent as good as Markanday. However, if the youngster has rejected the club’s contract offer, they might have little choice but to cash in on him. Hopefully, Spurs are able to convince the 20-year-old that a loan move would be the right next step in his career.
