Report: Spurs man could miss out on full pre-season for the third year in a row

Football.London have revealed that Giovani Lo Celso could be set to miss out on a significant chunk of Tottenham’s pre-season campaign should Argentina go all the way in the Copa America.

While the Tottenham players have had mixed fortunes in the European Championships so far, there has not been as much attention on Lo Celso, who is part of the Argentine squad that is hoping to win their first Copa America title since 1993.

The midfielder started Albiceleste’s first two group games against Chile and Uruguay but had to be withdrawn with an injury in the second half of the latter, subsequently missing out on the clash with Paraguay due to ‘discomfort’.

The 25-year-old will hope to be back for Lionel Scaloni’s side for their clash against Bolivia on Tuesday.

Football.London have now stated that if Argentina make it to the final in Rio de Janeiro on July 10, Lo Celso will likely have three weeks off to rest and will not report to Hotspur Way until the week leading up to the club’s opening day clash against Manchester City.

The report also points out that Lo Celso has not had a proper pre-season since arriving at Spurs in 2019 as his move went through quite late in the transfer window that summer.

The midfielder was also missed out last summer due to injury and it looks like he, once again, might not get the opportunity to complete a full pre-season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Lo Celso’s injury record before he arrived at Spurs was pretty good. Perhaps his injury problems during his time in North London can be put down to a lack of a proper pre-season, accompanied with the increased intensity of the Premier League.

However, with the schedule being as congested as it has been over the last 12 months, all clubs are in a similar situation. I would not be surprised if we once again see some crazy results at the start of next season before the league table settles down around January.
