Report: Spurs man rejected Championship and overseas offers this summer

The Athletic have revealed that several Championship clubs, as well as foreign clubs, expressed an interest in signing Dane Scarlett this summer.

Tottenham confirmed on Wednesday that Scarlett will join Portsmouth on a season-long loan deal. The move comes just days after another promising Spurs striker, Troy Parrott, completed a temporary move to Preston North End.

Scarlett has been in and around the Tottenham first-team over the last couple of years and has an outstanding record at both Under-18 and Under-23s level for the north London club.

The striker did not travel with the Spurs squad for their pre-season tour to South Korea earlier this month after playing a key role in England’s successful European Under-19 championship campaign.

Pompey boss Danny Cowley lavished praise on Scarlett’s talent and maturity, admitting that he is over the moon to have the youngster at Fratton Park ahead of the new campaign (Portsmouth’s official website).

The Athletic have now revealed that the Tottenham striker could have moved to the Championship or even enjoyed a loan abroad. However, he is thought to have rejected those offers in favour of joining the League One club.

Spurs Web Opinion

The decision to reject offers from the Championship in favour of a move to Portsmouth is absolutely the right one. The most important factor for Scarlett’s development at this stage is getting regular game time and he is much likelier to get that at the south coast club.
