Djed Spence impressed at Genoa

Spence’s loan spell at Genoa during the second half of the season was relatively successful but the right-back looks unlikely to return to the Serie A side this summer.

In fact, the 24-year-old’s Tottenham career has seemingly been handed a lifeline after Ange Postecoglou revealed last week that the former Middlesbrough man has impressed all the coaches during pre-season (Football.London).

Spence has featured in every single one of Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies, starting at left-back in both matches against Bayern Munich over the past two weekends.

Genoa’s failed move for Djed Spence

TMW now reveal Spence was ‘seduced’ by the idea of playing for Genoa when they made a move to sign him permanently.

However, the Rossoblu were later forced to ‘abandon him’ as negotiations with the London club proved ‘too difficult’.

Genoa thus decided that the Englishman was ‘too expensive’, instead deciding to sign Alessandro Zanoli on loan from Napoli, thus ending any chances of Spence returning to Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spence might have been open to the move since he felt that he did not really feature in Postecoglou’s plans.

Now that his situation at Spurs has changed, the right-back would likely want to give his all to impress the staff and show that he deserves minutes.
