Report: Spurs manager target has ‘given his word’ to club he will not leave

According to Algemeen Dagblad (17/04/23 as relayed by Voetbal Primeur and SportWitness), rumoured Tottenham managerial target, Arne Slot, has promised the Feyenoord hierarchy that he will remain at the club next season.

The speculation linking Slot with a move to Spurs has been growing steadily over the past couple of weeks, with the Dutchman thought to be on the North London club’s narrowed-down shortlist to replace Antonio Conte (Daily Star).

The Times reported last Wednesday that Tottenham are looking for a young progressive coach of the 44-year-old’s profile but added that both Crystal Palace and West Ham United are also eyeing moves for him.

In fact, The Sunday Mirror – 16/04, p70 even asserted a couple of days ago that the Eagles are ahead of Spurs in the race for Slot, having already made contact with him about replacing Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park at the end of the season.

However, according to Algemeen Dagblad, the Feyenoord boss is set to disappoint the aforementioned Premier League sides by staying put in Rotterdam.

The publication asserts that Slot ‘seems to have given his word’ to the club’s general manager, Dennis te Kloese, that he will remain at De Kuip next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Slot remains at Feyenoord as the 44-year-old will be aware that he needs to strike while the iron is hot as the opportunity to manage in the Premier League might not present itself again.

Feyenoord could well revert to the mean next season, given their lack of resources in comparison with Ajax and PSV, and the Dutchman’s stock could thus fall, just as Oliver Glasner’s has over recent months.
