Report: Spurs managerial target is now in talks with Italian club

Tottenham could potentially be on the verge of missing out on another of their reported managerial targets, with Relevo reporter Matteo Moretto revealing that Luis Enrique has now entered into talks with Napoli.

Following Arne Slot‘s decision to snub Spurs’ approach and remain at Feyenoord, it is unclear who Tottenham’s top managerial target is.

The Independent reported last week that Enrique, who has been out of work since parting ways with Spain following last year’s World Cup, is one of the names on the Lilywhites’ shortlist.

The report claimed that Daniel Levy ‘greatly values’ the former Barcelona coach but claimed that the Spurs hierarchy do not believe that a deal for the 53-year-old would be straightforward, given the demands he made during his talks with Chelsea over their managerial vacancy.

It was reported by Le Parisien last Thursday that Enrique is also at the top of Paris Saint-Germain’s wishlist to replace Christophe Galtier at the helm this summer.

If Moretto’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are also facing competition from Napoli for the Spaniard’s signature.

The journalist took to social media to reveal that the Serie A champions have already reached out to Enrique about replacing Luciano Spalletti at the helm, with the former Barca boss said to be ‘attracted’ by the project in Naples.

Some might view Enrique as the safest bet among the candidates who are now available but I do not see the Spaniard as being a good fit for Spurs. Much like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, he would get frustrated if his methods do not produce instant results.

Tottenham need someone like Mikel Arteta who is patient enough to build a long-term project at the club, which is why Slot appeared to be the best fit.
