Report: Spurs man’s chances of featuring at World Cup ‘not encouraging’

Argentine publication TyC Sports (07/11/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) have revealed that, as things stand, Giovani Lo Celso’s chances of featuring at the World Cup do not look positive

Lo Celso picked up a hamstring injury in Villarreal’s 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao last week, which has come as a major blow for the on-loan Tottenham man, with Argentina’s World Cup campaign getting underway with a clash against Saudi Arabia on November 22.

Journalist Roy Nemer offered an update on the midfielder’s situation last week, explaining that while Spurs want him to undergo surgery, the player wants to avoid going under the knife to give himself a chance of featuring in the World Cup.

El Chiringuito subsequently offered an update on the matter, explaining that the Spurs star will have one final test this week before making a decision on whether to have surgery.

TyC Sports have now reported something similar, explaining that both Spurs and Villarreal want Lo Celso to go under the knife.

The report adds that it is ‘very difficult’ for the 26-year-old to play in the World Cup, and the signs are ‘not encouraging’ at the moment.

Lo Celso would be devastated to miss the World Cup as this Argentinean side are clearly desperate to win the tournament for Messi to seal his legacy as the greatest player in history.

However, it sounds like the midfielder will struggle to feature in Qatar even if he does not have surgery. So, one would hope that his better judgement will prevail and he makes the right decision, keeping his long-term career in mind.
