Report: Spurs may have competition from Saudi Arabian side for midfield target

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli are set to make a move for rumoured Tottenham target, Franck Kessie.

Over the last week, multiple Spanish outlets have talked up Tottenham’s interest in Kessie, who is thought to be surplus to requirements at Barcelona.

It was previously reported by Sport (30/07/23 via Sport Witness) that Spurs are ready to challenge Juventus for the services of Ivorian.

The publication suggested that the North London club hold a ‘serious’ interest in the midfielder and were set to make a decision on whether to make a move for him within a week’s time.

It was subsequently claimed by Mundo Deportivo that Spurs have now ‘burst into the bidding’ for Kessie and were keen to take the player to England.

The outlet added that the 26-year-old’s non-involvement in Barcelona’s pre-season clash against Real Madrid on Sunday was a sign that he was close to a departure from Camp Nou.

Spurs competition from Saudi Arabia for Kessie

Fabrizio Romano has now stated that Al Ahli are also keen on securing the services of Kessie, although the Saudi club are yet to submit an offer.

The journalist does not mention Spurs but he does reveal that two Premier League sides and Juventus have been showing interest in the former AC Milan man for weeks.

Romano also says that Xavi Hernandez has been clear with Kessie that he is not part of his plans.

Tottenham would be hoping that Kessie is keen to prove himself in Europe rather than opting for a big payday in Saudi Arabia.

With Hojbjerg and Ndombele potentially on their way out, the Ivorian would certainly be a useful addition to the squad and would be a cheaper option than either Conor Gallagher or Douglas Luiz.
