Report: Spurs may have to battle Juventus and Aston Villa for 26-year-old

Football Transfers have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are involved in a three-way tussle with Juventus and Aston Villa for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

Spurs have struggled defensively all season and there is no doubt that reinforcements in the backline will be one of the club’s priorities in the summer.

According to Football Transfers, even though the North London club are yet to appoint a new manager, they have already started scouring the market for a centre-back, with Torres said to be ‘highly rated’ by the club’s hierarchy.

It is explained that Spurs moved for the Spain international last summer but had a €48.5m (£42.6m) bid rejected by Villarreal.

The Lilywhites are said to continue to hold an interest in Torres and the La Liga are expected to accept a decent offer this summer as the defender will run into the final year of his contract in June.

However, Tottenham are not alone in their admiration of the Villarreal star, with Unai Emery said to be keen on reuniting with the player at Aston Villa while Juventus are also thought to be watching his situation.

Spurs Web Opinion

We should be able to blow Juventus out of the water financially, which makes Aston Villa our biggest threat in the race for Torres’ signature, particularly given the Unai Emery connection.

One would expect a move to Spurs to be more lucrative to the 26-year-old than a switch to Villa Park but the Midlands club could steal a march on us as we have no manager or director of football in place at the moment.
