Tottenham Hotspur are looking at signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but so are Newcastle United, and while neither team has made an official approach yet, they have made their interest known.
It was recently confirmed by The Independent that Tottenham are trying to sign a central midfielder this month, with a player who can fill the number 8 role now the priority after the signings of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin.
Most reports have suggested Spurs are most keen on signing Conor Gallagher for this role, but with Chelsea asking for around £50m (Football Insider), the Lilywhites may be forced to look in a different direction.
A cheaper alternative would be Ederson, who currently plays for Atalanta in Serie A. In Sky Sports‘ Transfer Centre (16/01/24 at 17:48), it was revealed the North London club have been “tracking” the Brazilian, who has six goals so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Ederson wanted by Spurs and Newcastle
The latest report on the playmaker comes from Tutto Atalanta, who claim Ederson is now attracting interest not only from Spurs, but also from Newcastle United, too.
Apparently, the situation for the two Premier League sides currently sits “between interest and confirmation,” suggesting both clubs have made it clear Ederson is on their radar, but neither party has made a move, yet.
It is said Ederson holds great “strategic value” to Atalanta and their manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, so the Italian side are not exactly keen to let the 24-year-old leave, especially not this month.
Additional information comes from CalcioMercato, who claim Newcastle may have to sell Bruno Guimaraes to avoid Financial Fair Play punishment, and are on the lookout for his replacement, with Ederson eyed to fill his compatriots’ role.
Spurs Web Opinion
If we are serious about signing Ederson, I would think we would be in a position to beat Newcastle in the race. We are better placed financially to offer him a decent contract, and as things stand, have a better sporting project, too.
