Report: Spurs may have to compete with Real Madrid for manager target – not Pochettino

The latest report from Bild claims Real Madrid are now interested in Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner, who has recently been linked with taking over at Tottenham Hotspur.

Glasner has been with Frankfurt since the summer of 2021 and saw his reputation boosted when he lifted the Europa League title with the German side last season.

This year, he led Frankfurt through a tricky Champions League group that included Tottenham Hotspur. Frankfurt were knocked out of the tournament by Napoli in the second round.

Nevertheless, Glasner has earned his fair share of admirers during his time in the Bundesliga. The Austrian was linked with Tottenham earlier this month (Daily Mail).

Speculation is mounting that Antonio Conte will leave his position as Spurs boss by the end of the week (Telegraph).

It has been suggested that the North London club have already made contact with Glasner as the manager stalls on agreeing a new deal with Frankfurt (Bild).

If Spurs do want Glasner, they may be unhappy to hear they could be facing competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are looking for a long-term successor to current boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti’s contract expires in 2024 and the latest from Bild suggests the La Liga side have taken a liking to Glasner.

The latter’s contract with Eintracht Frankfurt also expires in 2024 and there is a chance the stars could align for Glasner to make the jump to Madrid.

It remains to be seen which club Glasner would pick, or if his head would be turned at all for that matter.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t see Real Madrid going for Glasner personally. He’s done great things at Frankfurt but doesn’t quite have the pedigree that the Spanish side would look for usually.

Similarly, I don’t know if that job would be a good fit for him anyway, and he may be more comfortable with the pressures of Tottenham than Madrid.
