Report: Spurs may lose another highly-rated academy starlet to European club

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Romaine Mundle has reportedly been offered a contract by Belgian sides Anderlecht and Standard Liege with a view to moving on a free transfer.

Mundle is a Tottenham academy product and has developed through the various youth teams at the club to now become one of the brightest stars in the Spurs Under 23 squad.

The winger has enjoyed a brilliant season in the development squad, contributing eight goals and five assists in 32 appearances this term (Transfermarkt).

Mundle’s current contract expires next month and Spurs had been keen to tie him down to a new deal amid reported interest from other Premier League clubs (Football.London).

In the brief time Cristian Stellini was in charge of the first team, Mundle was among those called up to train with the senior squad (Sky Sports News).

It was even suggested that the 20-year-old could be set for some minutes on the pitch for the first team this season (Football.London).

Now, it seems Mundle may never end up making a senior appearance for Spurs. As per Fabrizio Romano, two clubs have now made an approach to sign the starlet at the end of the season.

He said: “Understand Anderlecht and Standard Liege are amongst a number of European clubs racing to sign Romaine Mundle on a free transfer from Tottenham.

“Personal terms have been offered to 2003-born winger — priority, sporting project  and first-team football guarantees.”

Tottenham fans may be worried that Mundle could follow in the footsteps of the likes of Marcus Edwards and Noni Madueke.

Spurs Web Opinion

Just when I was getting somewhat excited about all the young talent we have been signing and giving new contracts to, we now look set to lose one of our brightest prospects.

Mundle has easily been one of the best players in our development squad this year, and it will be a real shame if we can’t convince him to stick around beyond the end of his contract.
