Report: Spurs may miss out on PL centre-back – Could be down to Mourinho

The Athletic have reported that Tottenham are no longer in line to sign Southampton central defender, Jannik Vestergaard.

It was originally reported that Spurs were keen on the towering centre-back and that Mourinho in particular was spearheading the interest from North London.

However, the Special One was sacked in late April before he could even think about bringing in summer signings and Tottenham’s interest in Vestergaard may have gone with him.

It seems no coincidence that Roma, to be managed by Mourinho next season, are now apparently very keen on signing the £18m man (TMW).

The Athletic claim that Spurs are now looking at other options and Vestergaard himself is more likely to move abroad than to another Premier League club.

Spurs struggled at centre-back this season, with Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld all falling short of expectations. As such, Football London have reported that Spurs are in the market for two new central defenders.
