Report: Spurs may receive financial boost as club are resigned to losing attacker

Tottenham’s coffers could get a boost in the summer as journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed in his column in Football Insider that Sunderland are now increasingly resigned to losing former Spurs winger Jack Clarke.

While Clarke was unable to impress during his three seasons at Tottenham after his move from Leeds United in 2019, the winger has come of age over the last two years at the Stadium of Light.

The 23-year-old played a key role in helping Sunderland win promotion to the Championship last season and has been one of the most impressive wingers in English football’s second tier so far this campaign.

Last week, The Sun reported that Southampton are plotting a move for the young winger at the end of the season, explaining that Tottenham could be in line to profit as the North London club hold a 25 per cent sell-on clause on the player.

Interest mounting in former Spurs winger, Jack Clarke

O’Rourke has now said that Sunderland are now coming to the realisation that they will have to cash in on Clarke as their bid for promotion is now crumbling.

The journalist also named Southampton as one of the clubs interested in the former Spurs man and he reveals that the Saints are joined in the race by West Ham United and Crystal Palace as well.

He adds that it will take a bid of £20m to convince Sunderland to sell their star man. If Clarke does fetch that fee, Tottenham would be owed £5m due to their sell-on clause.

It has been widely reported that Ange Postecoglou also wants to add reinforcements to the wide areas in the summer. I wonder if Spurs will be tempted to vie for Clarke’s signature, given that they can sign him for a discounted price.

However, the 23-year-old might be hesitant to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, given his struggles for game time during his first spell at the club.
