Tottenham Hotspur playmaker, Christian Eriksen, has certainly made his feelings clear this summer, as he told the Danish media that he wanted a new challenge and a step up from Spurs next season (Ekstra Bladet).

As a result, Spurs have been linked with Real Madrid attacking midfielder Dani Ceballos as a potential replacement for the Great Dane (Sky Sports).

This comes after the 22-year-old impressed on duty for Spain at the U21 European Championships this summer, eventually lifting the trophy.

However, Marca now claim that Madrid have changed their minds with regards to Ceballos, and may now want to keep him in the squad next season.

Football London suggest that Tottenham will use Christian Eriksen to secure a Ceballos deal if Real Madrid come in for the Spurs man.

It was rumoured earlier in the window that Real were preparing an offer of £45m plus Ceballos for Eriksen this summer (Sun).

However, the Guardian claim that it is increasingly likely that Eriksen will remain in North London beyond the summer, which could see him leave on a free in 2020.

  1. I don’t see why we would be going for Ceballos, it makes no sense. He did nothing of note in la liga last year and failed to hold down a place in a struggling yet galactico packed Madrid side, despite their fans loving homegrown talent coming through, and more so when the bought players are struggling. He got 2 goals and 2 assists as a 22 year old in an under 21s tournament, the form of which must be taken with a huge pinch of salt.

Then theres the fact that Real Madrid would never outright sell him to us without a buy back clause, because Florentino Perez doesn’t like dealing with Daniel Levy.
Then theres the fact that Real Madrid cast offs either don’t perform at their next clubs, look at their next club as a step down, or if they do become successful, force a move at the earliest opportunity back there.
Then theres the fact he doesn’t want to leave Madrid to come to Spurs.

Lets face it, if this guy played for Getafe and scored 3 goals in the league and had a 2 goal 2 assist under 21 tournament, no one would even know his name. Dani Olmo has 3 goals 1 assist in the same tournament for the same team and he had a pretty average season in the croat league, but yet we are not interested in him.

Eriksen at the same age had already played adult first team football for about 6 years, stood out as a star at Ajax, earned himself a transfer to Spurs, played most of season for us in the prem and had 14 goals and 14 assists across all tournaments.

We are better chasing players on the up who are hungry for success than chasing the likes of Ceballos. Hes a Stoke City signing all day long.
