Report: Spurs midfielder emerges as transfer target ahead of transfer window closing

Victor Wanyama is reported to be the subject of transfer interest from a fellow Premier League club.

According to the Daily Mail, Bournemouth have the Kenyan on their radar ahead of the transfer window closing next Thursday at 5pm for top flight clubs in England.

Wanyama missed Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the Far East following his involvement in Kenya’s African Cup of Nations campaign.

He was also forced to sit out the Audi Cup matches in Munich earlier this week after he reported irritation in his knee after training on Monday and remained back in London to be assessed (Spurs official).

Spurs go into their final pre-season match on Sunday against Inter Milan with the 28-year-old yet to feature and could potentially find it difficult to hold down regular first team football in North London.

Wanyama faces tough competition for a central midfield position against the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and big money signing Tanguy Ndombele while academy graduate Oliver Skipp has also impressed.

Opinion

Wanyama’s knee issues have significantly limited his game time over the past two seasons and it would be a sensible idea to move him on before the start of the new campaign and get him off the wage bill.
