Report: Spurs midfielder held talks with Man Utd boss this summer

According to a report in Manchester Evening News, Manchester United approached Tottenham for midfielder Christian Eriksen in the final few days of the transfer window.

The report claims that Spurs encouraged Man Utd to bid for Eriksen, who only has one year left on his contract with the club.

It is asserted that Man Utd manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer personally spoke to the Spurs midfielder about the prospects of joining the Red Devils but the 27-year-old made it clear that his preference was to move to Spain.

With the European transfer market open till September 2nd, the Denmark international could still leave the club this summer.

Tottenham have already secured the services of Giovani Lo Celso this summer, who will presumably take up the creative mantle in midfield if Eriksen leaves.

Some reports have indicated that the club have begun talks with the former Ajax man over a new contract which will see him earn £200,000 a week (Daily Mail).

As it is clear that Eriksen isn’t at the top of Real Madrid’s wishlist this summer, the ideal situation for all parties would be for the 27-year-old to sign an extension with Spurs with a release clause that will allow him to leave if Madrid come calling next summer.
