Report: Spurs midfielder is on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist at AS Roma

According to a report in Il Romanista, Jose Mourinho would like to reunite with Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at AS Roma.

Mourinho was the man who brought Hojbjerg to Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2020 and the midfielder had an excellent first season in North London, displaying consistent performances in the middle of the park under the Portuguese coach.

While the Dane has continued to be a mainstay in Tottenham’s starting eleven this season, his performance levels have dropped and he has come under criticism from a section of Spurs fans recently and was dropped from the starting eleven for today’s match against Wolves.

Il Romanista claim that Mourinho wants Roma to snap up the Spurs man when the transfer window opens in the summer.

It is explained that the former Tottenham head coach wants a midfielder who has ‘personality’ and ‘technique’ while also possessing leadership qualities.

Hojbjerg is said to be part of the five-man shortlist that the Giallorossi have drawn up for the position.

The report adds that there is a belief at Roma that Spurs might be open to cashing in on the 26-year-old after they signed Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

Hobjerg clearly has his deficiencies on the ball, which were even apparent when he was doing well for us last season.

However, the Dane is still very good at reading the game and can be a vital cog in the wheel in Conte’s system.

Some of the criticism he has been getting this season has been over the top and I do believe that he will rediscover his form sooner rather than later.
