Report: Spurs midfielder unlikely to be available to face Man City

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is unlikely to be available for Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Manchester City, Football.London have confirmed.

Nuno Espirito Santo has just 20 days left to get his troops prepared for the new campaign and the first match certainly sets the benchmark high, with the Premier League Champions coming to town.

The Portuguese coach is yet to have many of his players back as the stars who were involved in the Copa America and Europeans Championships are yet to return to Hotspur Way for pre-season training.

Football.London reveal that the international stars will start returning over the next few weeks, with Wales pair Ben Davies and Joe Rodon being the first ones expected back followed by French duo Hugo Lloris and Moussa Sissoko.

With Denmark making it to the semi-final stage of the Euros and England making it a step further, Hojbjerg and Harry Kane are the last ones expected back to pre-season training.

Previous reports have already indicated that Kane, who is currently on holiday in the Bahamas, is set to miss the clash against City.

Football.London have now claimed that Hojbjerg is also unlikely to be available for selection for Tottenham’s season opener.

The report also casts doubts on the availability of Giovani Lo Celso, who won the Copa America with Argentina, and Davinson Sanchez, whose Colombia side were knocked out in the semifinal stage of the competition.

Spurs Web Opinion

It will not just be Spurs who are understrength for the match as some of City’s key players also reached the latter stages of the Euros and Copa America.

However, Guardiola has a much better squad work with and so Nuno will certainly have his work cut out to get a result against City without the likes of Kane and Hojbjerg.
