Report: Spurs monitoring 22-year-old currently at the World Cup

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Josip Sutalo.

Sutalo, who has established himself as a regular for Dinamo over the last 18 months, has been capped three times for Croatia.

The 22-year-old is part of the World Cup squad in Qatar but was an unused substitute in both matches against Morocco and Qatar, with Zlatko Dalic opting for a centre-back partnership of Dejan Lovren and Josko Gvardiol.

La Lazio Siamo Noi reported earlier this year that Lazio were considering a move for Sutalo and added that the centre-back had also been watched by Atalanta and Arsenal.

TMW now assert that Gvradiol is not the only Croatian defender that Spurs have an eye on, with Antonio Conte’s men also said to be monitoring the progress of Sutalo ahead of the January transfer window.

The youngster has played in all three positions across the back three for Dinamo but has featured most frequently in the middle.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have no doubt that Tottenham will be in the market for a centre-back in January. The club will likely target a player who can be used as a right centre-back as well as a central sweeper.

While Sutalo fits that profile, he does not have enough experience at the top level to be thrown into the deep end. If Spurs do sign the 22-year-old, I suspect they will loan him back out to Dinamo so that he can continue his development in the Croatian top flight.
