Report: Spurs monitoring £30m-rated midfielder who is ‘determined to leave’ club

The Athletic have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Abdoulaye Doucoure’s situation at Watford after he made it clear to the club that he wants to leave this year.

Doucoure was one of the Hornets’ stand out performers in his first couple of years in the Premier League and his performances attracted the interest of several clubs including Spurs (Mirror).

However, the 27-year-old is one of many Watford players whose reputation has taken a hit on the back of an extremely disappointing season.

The Athletic revealed that the Frenchman is desperate to leave Vicarage Road this summer and Watford are willing to listen to offers.

While Spurs and Fulham are both said to be interested in the midfielder, it is Everton who are said to be the front-runners for the former Rennes man’s signature.

The report claims that Toffees have agreed on a four-year contract with Doucoure and are now negotiating a transfer fee with Watford.

It is suggested that Watford are demanding around £30million for the midfielder.

With the arrival of Hojbjerg, the need for another physical presence in midfield has diminished. However, one could argue that Doucoure is much more of a box to box player than the Dane and could easily work in a partnership with him. In fact, if we are going to sell Ndombele this summer, then Doucoure would not be a bad shout as a cost-effective replacement.
