Report: Spurs monitoring Championship striker closely – PL rival also interested

The Daily Mail are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Troy Deeney’s situation closely, with Watford reportedly looking to sell the experienced striker this summer.

Previous reports have indicated that Jose Mourinho wants to bring Deeney to North London as Harry Kane’s main back up next summer.

The Mail reveal that Watford wish to sell their captain as they look to reduce their wage bill after being relegated to the Championship.

The striker is reportedly attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Spurs, but it is West Brom who are currently mentioned as the front-runners for his signature.

The report asserts that Watford chief executive, Scott Duxbury and West Brom sporting director, Luke Dowling are currently engaged in talks over the Deeney’s transfer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is understandable why Spurs fans believe we should be aiming higher than Deeney. However, I disagree with those who are suggesting that it will be a terrible move for us. Deeney could potentially be an excellent plan B to bring on. In fact, given his age and his style of play, he could even prove to be more effective for us than Llorente was.
