Report: Spurs monitoring Chelsea star’s situation

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping an eye on Mason Mount’s situation, with the midfielder no closer to penning a new contract with Chelsea.

Mount will enter the final year of his contract this June and unsurprisingly, a whole host of Premier League clubs, including Spurs, are said to be keeping an eye on his situation.

Apart from the Lilywhites, the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Newcastle United are also thought to be interested in the England international while it is explained that Arsenal could also make a move for the 24-year-old as the Gunners are could be in the market for a number eight this summer.

However, The Athletic claim that as things stand, it is Liverpool who are leading the race for Mount’s signature, with the Reds said to have held conversations with the player’s entourage regarding a switch to Anfield.

The publication adds that Chelsea have not given up hope of trying the attacking midfielder down to a new contract. In the event that Mount does not put pen to paper, the West London club are expected to demand £70m for his services.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham most certainly need a number eight in the summer but I cannot see us getting involved in a bidding war for Mount, even if the player is open to a switch across London, which is far from given.

It is unlikely that the club would take concrete steps regarding summer transfer targets before finalising their next head coach and then uncertainty over Fabio Paratici’s own future in N17.
