Report: Spurs monitoring Serie A defender’s situation before end of January

Tottenham Hotspur could be handed an opportunity to sign Napoli right-back Elseid Hysaj before the end of the January transfer window.

The report by Tuttosport claims that Spurs are one of three different clubs interested in signing the right back this month, with Juventus and Roma mentioned as the two other potential suitors.

Spurs were also linked with a move for the Albanian international in the summer (Calcio Mercato) but decided against signing a right back despite letting Kieran Trippier join Atletico Madrid.

The Lilywhites have experienced issues at right-back this season due to Serge Aurier’s inconsistency while Kyle Walker-Peters doesn’t look ready to contest the Ivorian on a first-team spot.

However, the report suggests that Napoli are not particularly keen on letting the 25-year-old leave at the moment.

It is claimed that the Serie A side may review the situation towards the end of the month but a summer move seems more of a possibility.

Right back is one of the positions where we are desperate for investment as Aurier seems to have no competition for his place at the moment. I was hoping Foyth would get a consistent run out in the position this season but that doesn’t look likely under Mourinho. While Hysaj is a steady defender, he is pretty uninspiring going forward. However, his defensive ability and his versatility could make him a smart addition to the squad.
