Report: Spurs monitoring situation after Jose Mourinho makes transfer decision

Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs who are closely monitoring Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Il Romanista.

Former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, who is in charge of the Serie A club is reported to have previously considered the 22-year-old not to be for sale but has since had a change of heart.

Zaniolo joined Roma from Inter Milan in 2018 in a swap deal for Radja Nainggolan and rose to prominence with the Giallorossi before suffering a season-ending knee which saw him miss the whole of the last campaign (transfermarkt).

The Italian international has two-and-a-half-years left on his deal with 90min claiming that Spurs’ managing director of football Fabio Paratici is a fan of the player and was keen to sign him during his time at Juventus prior to the ACL injury he sustained in 2020.

Zaniolo has made 21 starts in Serie A this season, contributing just two goals and two assists.

Zaniolo certainly made people sit up and take notice when he first joined Roma but cruelly saw his progress halted by the injury he sustained, whether Spurs would be prepared to take a risk on a player who has suffered such a significant knee problem would be questionable despite the obvious talent he possesses.
