Report: Spurs monitoring target ahead of a potential summer move

Reports from France claim that Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to monitor the situation of Mike Maignan’s closely ahead of a potential summer move.

Maignan has been in impressive form in between the sticks for Lille since replacing Vincent Enyeama as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

He is one of a number of shot-stoppers that Tottenham have been linked with over the past few months including Ajax’s Andre Onana (Daily Mail), with Jose Mourinho reportedly on the lookout for Hugo Lloris’ long-term replacement (Tuttosport via Tribal Football).

Tottenham’s goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos has worked with Maignan at Lille and it was reported last month that he was pushing Mourinho to bring the Frenchman to North London this summer (La Voix du Nord).

Le10Sport now reveal that Spurs have not abandoned their chase for the 24-year-old and continue to assess him.

The report claims that Chelsea could be set to challenge Spurs for Maignan’s signature as a potentil replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

It is suggested that neither club have made an offer for the goalkeeper but that Lille expect Maignan to leave Stade Pierre Mauroy this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be extremely surprised if we splashed the cash to sign a potential number one this summer given the financial challenges the club are facing. There are other areas of the pitch where we are clearly in more desperate need for additions and I expect those positions to be prioritised this summer.
