Report: Spurs move for 28-year-old is now ‘complicated’ after transfer development

The print edition of Sport (09/08/23 – as relayed by Sport Witness) has revealed that Tottenham’s move for Clement Lenglet has now become ‘complicated’ after the North London club signed Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg earlier this week.

The negotiations between Spurs and Barcelona over Lenglet have seemingly been in a deadlock since the start of the summer, with there appearing to be no light at the end of the tunnel for the moment.

This week we relayed a report from Mundo Deportivo which claimed that even though Juventus had also entered the race for the Frenchman, the centre-back is prioritising a return to Tottenham.

The report added that Barca remain hopeful of resolving the logjam in their negotiations with the Lilywhites

Situation now complicated with Spurs and Barcelona

However, if Sport’s latest update is to be believed, a deal for Lenglet has now become complicated after Spurs strengthened at left centre-back with the acquisition of Van de Ven in a £43m deal from Wolfsburg.

The outlet state that Barca are now questioning whether the Premier League side are still interested in the 28-year-old’s services.

The report adds that while Lenglet still prefers to return to Tottenham, the former Sevilla man might be forced to look at other alternatives if a transfer to N17 does not materialise.

Spurs Web Opinion

It was always clear right from the start that Tottenham would sign one starting left-sided centre-back and were interested in acquiring Lenglet as a backup.

So, I do not think the signing of Ven de Ven makes any difference to the North London club’s pursuit of the Frenchman.
