Report: Spurs’ move for midfielder could be finalised in ‘next few hours’

Foot Mercato have revealed that Barcelona starlet Ilaix Moriba is edging closer to an exit from the Camp Nou and that his move to Tottenham could be finalised in the next few hours.

Tottenham have already secured the services of one hot young midfield prospect in Pape Matar Sarr and if reports are to be beleived, Fabio Paratici is now after another one in Moriba.

The teenager, who impressed after breaking into Barca’s team in January, has allegedly been frozen out by Ronald Koeman this season after failing to agree on a contract extension with the Catalan giants.

Reports emerged on Friday that although Moriba had agreed on personal terms with RB Leipzig, the midfielder prefes to join Spurs over the Bundesliga side.

Foot Mercato have now shed more light on the 18-year-old’s situation by revealing that while Leipzig have reached an agreement with the midfielder’s representatives, they do not want to buy out the 12 months left in the midfielder’s contract in Catalonia.

It is explained that, in contrast, Spurs would be willing to pay a fee of €15m (£12.8m) plus bonuses to Barca for the La Masia product.

The report adds that Tottenham ‘are in a good position to finalise the arrival’ of Moriba.

Representatives from Spurs and Barca are allegedly expected to meet today and it is suggested that the transfer could be finalised quickly in the next few hours.

Spurs Web Opinion

Moriba seems to possess plenty of talent and we could potentially have a rough diamond in our hands if we manage to get the deal over the line.

However, the fact that he is demanding a big contract just a few months after breaking into the Barca first-team, is very telling. That suggests that the youngster does not have the best advisors around him.
