Report: Spurs name asking price for midfielder amid Serie A club’s interest

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (page 21, March 25, 2022) has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur would be willing to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to AS Roma this summer.

After struggling for consistency earlier in the campaign, Hojbjerg’s form his improved considerably over recent weeks, with the Dane seeming to have formed a good understanding with January signing Rodrigo Bentancur.

Il Messaggero reported earlier this week that Jose Mourinho, who brought the 26-year-old from Southampton to Spurs, was desperate to take him to Roma this summer.

It was suggested that the Portuguese coach is prepared to give up everything to sign the midfielder but the report added that a move was unlikely.

However, Gazzetta have now indicated that Hojbjerg could indeed be allowed to move to the Italian capital in the summer at the right price.

It is reported that the North Londoners are looking for a fee of around €40m (£33.3m) for the Denmark international.

Even if Conte does not see Hojbjerg as an automatic starter next season, the Italian will likely want to keep the Dane around as a squad player. However, if the North Londoners do decide to cash in on the 26-year-old, £35m would be fair value for the player.
