Report: Spurs named as one of four Premier League clubs interested in Ajax star

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a move for Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez this summer, according to 90min.

Tottenham are expected invest in a left-sided centre-back this summer, with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Pau Torres, Clement Lenglet and Josko Gvardiol reported to be among the names on the club’s radar (The Athletic).

90min have claimed that Martinez is another option that Antonio Conte’s men have their eye on.

The 24-year-old has been a revelation since leaving South America to join Ajax back in 2019 and has demonstrated his versatility for the Eredivisie giants, featuring at centre-back, left-back and also as a defensive midfielder.

The report suggests that north London rivals Arsenal are leading the race for Martinez, with Mikel Arteta thought to be keen on landing the Argentine.

It is explained that the Gunners could face competition from Spurs, Chelsea and Newcastle United, who are all said to be keeping a close eye on the defender.

Inter Milan and Barcelona are also credited with an interest in Martinez, and while Erik Ten Hag is also said to be a fan of the centre-back, Manchester United are instead said to be prioritising moves for Jurrien Timber and Pau Torres.

Martinez would fit the profile of the player Spurs are looking for to fill the left centre-back role. However, the jump from the Eredivisie to the Premier League is a huge one, particularly for defenders, and so there would be a major element of risk involved with a move for the 24-year-old.
