Report: Spurs named as second favourites to sign 24-year-old behind La Liga club

Corriere della Sera have named Tottenham Hotspur as one of the three clubs who are keen on landing Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez this summer.

Spurs are expected to prioritise a deal for Martinez when the transfer window reopens in the summer, with Antonio Conte thought to be keen on reuniting with the Argentine international (Inter Live).

Spanish publication Sport claimed recently that Barcelona also hold an interest in the Argentina international but suggested that the Inter star is not a ‘priority’ for the Catalan giants, who are also assessing other forward options in the market.

Corriere have now claimed that both Atletico Madrid and Spurs are ahead of Barca in the race for Martinez’s signature, with the report stating that Atletico are the ‘main suspect’, followed by Spurs.

It is explained that the 24-year-old will be free to leave the San Siro at the end of the season. Inter allegedly want a fee of around €60m-€70m (£49.7m-£58m) for the forward.

A player of Martinez’s quality for around £50m represents very good value for money. However, the big question is whether it would be the best use of Tottenham’s resources to spend a significant portion of their transfer budget on the forward area rather than on the midfield and the backline.
