Report: Spurs named in the race to sign £55.2m-valued central defender

Tottenham have emerged in the race to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, according to Il Messaggero.

Spurs have been named alongside Paris Saint-Germain as suitors for the Slovakian centre-back, although the Ligue 1 side have eased their interest in a deal.

The report adds Inter are now keen to keep Skriniar at the club this summer but an offer worth €65 million (£55.2m) could be enough to tempt them into a sale.

It comes after The Guardian previously reported that Spurs were alongside Chelsea in holding an interest in Skriniar, who made 48 appearances for the Nerazzurri last season (Transfermarkt).

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs also claimed Spurs listed him as a candidate to strengthen Antonio Conte’s defence ahead of the new campaign.

They have already brought in French defender Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan from Barcelona, who moved to north London as one of six signings already made by the club.

Tottenham could use another central defender and one of seriously high quality and someone like Skriniar would fit the bill.

It is interesting that Inter are open to selling him despite stating they want to keep him, but as expected he will command a hefty transfer fee.
