Report: Spurs need to reach compromise with European giant to sign defender

Sport have revealed that it is clear Barcelona and Tottenham must both compromise on some of their demands for Clement Lenglet to seal a permanent move to North London.

The report states that Barca and Spurs are ‘still immersed in negotiation’ for Lenglet and that the talks between the two clubs continued over the weekend as they both aim to find a ‘definitive solution’.

However, it is explained that there is still no agreement between the La Liga side and the Lilywhites. As thing stands, it is suggested that ‘everyone is clear’ that compromises have to be made, with Spurs and Lenglet himself needing to ‘do their part’ for the deal to go through.

Spurs and Barcelona must compromise on Lenglet transfer

The report reveals Tottenham have made a ‘great economic effort’ to agree on a three-year contract with the 27-year-old, who is expected to earn close to the same salary which he currently pockets from his existing deal at the Camp Nou.

Lenglet is said to be currently negotiating a compensation package with Barcelona ahead of a potential transfer.

With Tottenham not willing to pay more than €10m (£8.5m) for the centre-back, it is claimed that the La Liga championsare looking for ‘intermediate formulas’ since they are keen to get the former French international’s salary off their wage bill.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are absolutely correct in sticking to their guns and not wanting to pay over the odds for Lenglet, particularly given that Barca are seemingly desperate to trim their wage bill. I expect the Catalan club to compromise on their demands sooner rather than later so that a transfer can be finalised.

Lenglet will be a sensible addition to provide cover from the bench, but Spurs must look to bring in someone with more pace to help limit the exposure of the defensive line. Micky van de Ven would certainly fit the bill if a deal can be reached with Wolfsburg.
