According to a report in La Nuova Sardegna, Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez is now close to completing a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

There could be some major changes in Tottenham’s central midfield ranks in the week remaining of the transfer window, with both Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele being linked with moves away.

Spurs are reportedly close to landing Metz teenage sensation Pape Sarr but the 18-year-old is not the only central midfielder who the North London club are thought to be keen on signing.

It was reported last week that Tottenham were set to accelerate their pursuit of Nandez, with the 25-year-old alleged to be keen on joining the Lilywhites.

Fabrizio Romano then claimed on Saturday that Spurs had pulled out of the race for the Uruguayan international, adding that the player could join Atalanta instead.

However, if La Nuova Sardegna’s latest update is to be beleived, Fabio Paratici very much remains keen on snapping up the Cagliari star.

The report claims that Spurs are ‘serious’ about signing the central midfielder, who is now close to sealing a transfer.

The two clubs are alleged to be discussing a €10m (£8.6m) loan fee plus an obligatory purchase clause between €15m and €20m (£13m and £17m)

It is explained that negotiations are ‘well underway’ and ‘could even be closed’ in the coming days.

Spurs Web Opinion

Pape Sarr is clearly a signing for the future and given that he looks set to be loaned back to Metz, we could need another midfielder to take Moussa Sissoko place in the squad.

So, one could certainly see the logic in signing a utility player like Nandez. I am not convinced, however, that we will find a buyer for Ndombele before the window slams shut.
