Report: Spurs no closer to completing deal for transfer target

While the speculation linking Tottenham with a deal for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala has dominating the headlines over the last week, one player who has been linked with Spurs since the beginning of the transfer window is Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso (The Sun).

It was reported earlier that Lo Celso himself was keen to move to Tottenham and work under compatriot Mauricio Pochettino (The Mirror).

However, with less than two weeks to go before the end of the transfer window, Spanish publication Mucho Deporte are now reporting that Tottenham and Betis are no closer to reaching an agreement for Lo Celso.

The report claims that the La Liga club are determined not to drop their €75 million asking price for Lo Celso and will only let the midfielder leave if their demands are met.

It is suggested that the 23-year-old will return to training Betis on Tuesday after an extended holiday due to his involvement in Copa America with Argentina.

Spurs Web Opinion

While this is frustrating news for Spurs fans, we at Spurs Web think this is one of those deals that is nailed on to be completed before the end of the transfer window. With Betis now getting Nabil Fekir from Lyon, they will likely have to let Lo Celso go. It could be the case that Daniel Levy is delaying the deal in an effort to reduce the asking price.
