Report: Spurs no longer front-runners for star as Chelsea make approach

According to a report in the print edition of Spanish publication AS (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham are set to miss out on Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde.

Kounde has been a revelation since moving to Seville from Bordeaux back in 2019 and has admitted that he is ready to make a big move this summer.

Fabrizio Romano claimed last week that Tottenham were in talks with the centre-back’s representatives while La Colina de Nervion have reported that the North London club are ready to make a £50m offer for the 22-year-old.

However, there have also been some suggestions in the Spanish press (Marca) that the central defender might not be enthusiastic about the idea of joining Spurs.

AS have now reiteration the same, suggesting that the lack of Champions League football at Tottenham is a deal-breaker for Kounde.

The report reveals that Chelsea have now made an ‘important approach’ for the French international.

Kounde is also said to be on Manchester United’s radar and it is explained that the Red Devils could make an approach for the Sevilla star if they are not successful in their pursuit of Raphael Varane.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Kounde is by far the most exciting of the centre-backs we have been linked with so far in this transfer window, the Sevilla star was always going to prove difficult to get. Given that Spurs do not get tend to get involved in bidding wars, I expect Paratici to move on to more realistic targets.
