Report: Spurs no longer interested in 25-year-old after Nuno’s arrival

According to a report from L’Equipe (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are no longer interested in Lyon centre-back Joachim Andersen.

Andersen impressed during his loan spell at Fulham last season but the defender was not able to prevent the Cottagers from going down.

The 25-year-old watched on from the bench for the majority of the European Championships, with Kasper Hjulmand preferring a three-man backline of Simon Kjaer, Andreas Christensen and Jannik Vestergaard.

It was previously reported that the Lyon star was one of the central defenders on Fabio Paratici’s radar, with some sources from Denmark even claiming that Spurs were in the driving seat to secure the defender’s signature.

However, L’Equipe have now asserted that Andersen is no longer on Tottenham’s radar.

It is explained that the club decided to abandon their pursuit of the Lyon star after the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo.

The report also discusses Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Houssem Aouar, describing the North London club’s interest in the 23-year-old as ‘timid’.

Spurs Web Opinion

The speculation linking Spurs with Andersen has died down over recent weeks, which does point to the fact that the 25-year-old is no longer the club’s preferred centre-back target.

I also think Tottenham’s interest in Aouar is purely opportunistic due to the 23-year-old’s contract situation.
