Report: Spurs now actively want to sell player who was a regular last season

As Tottenham Hotspur look to offload more players this summer, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has emerged as someone the club is actively hoping to sell.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joined Tottenham from Southampton in 2020, and has been a mainstay in the Spurs first team throughout the tenure of various different managers.

The Danish international has now racked up 145 appearances for Spurs over the years (Transfermarkt). Last season in particular was a successful one on a personal level for Hojbjerg, who provided 12 goal contributions in 44 games for Tottenham (Transfermarkt).

It has been suggested that Hojbjerg doesn’t quite fit the playing style of new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou however, and could be available for sale this summer.

All the talk surrounding Hojbjerg has posited Atletico Madrid as the likely destination should he end up moving on and it is thought ‘positive developments’ have been made between Spurs and Atletico Madrid (Daily Mail).

While there is believed to be some disagreement on the player’s value, it is thought Atletico have already agreed personal terms with Hojbjerg, and Spurs have been ‘open’ to the idea of letting him go (Ben Jacobs).

Tottenham actively want to sell Hojbjerg

Tottenham’s desire to sell Hojbjerg has reportedly intensified, with the North London club now actively wanting the player to leave this summer.

That’s according to a report from the Daily Mail, who discuss the way Tottenham may use the money from the proposed sale of Harry Kane. Apparently, Spurs will need to “raise further funds” to facilitate their transfer ambitions.

They will do this by looking to “offload” various existing players. Hojbjerg is mentioned in a list of names including Hugo Lloris, Tanguy Ndombele, and Davinson Sanchez who the club hope to sell.

Spurs Web Opinion

As long as we have a good replacement lined up, we should let Hojbjerg go. I really rate him, but Postecoglou clearly doesn’t and if he isn’t wanted then we need to move him on as soon as possible and find someone who better fits the profile Ange is looking for.
