Report: Spurs interest at ‘advanced stage’ over key Conte target – ‘Growing confidence’ they will sign him

The Northern Echo have reported that Tottenham’s interest in Djed Spence is now at an ‘advanced stage’ and there is growing confidence within the club that they will be able to sign him.

The report also adds that Conte identified the youngster as one of his key summer targets even before the season ended. The wing-back is thought to be valued at around £15m.

This comes after reports that Djed Spence is interested in joining Tottenham with six clubs in pursuit of the Middlesbrough defender, including Newcastle, Brentford, Borussia Dortmund and Roma (Football.London).

Spence flourished in the Championship on loan at Nottingham Forest and starred in the club’s promotion-winning campaign as they overcame Huddersfield in the play-off final.

The 21-year-old took on a wing-back role under Steve Cooper and excelled as Forest returned to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

Spence’s displays have since put him on the map for a move this summer with the newly-promoted side expected to be rivalled by Tottenham for the £15 million-rated England youth international (Telegraph).

Spence made 50 appearances across all competitions this season and directly had a hand in eight goals (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

There is a pretty big market for Spence after his performances for Forest this season and that is usually the case with young English players.

Tottenham have an issue as right wing-back in particular, as well as needing to make sure they fulfil the homegrown quota adequately, but they face plenty of competition in this case.
