Report: Spurs now ‘confident’ of landing 24-year-old striker after recent talks

CaughtOffside have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now confident of winning the race for Santiago Gimenez’s signature after stepping up their interest in the Feyenoord star.

The report alleges that Spurs are planning on bringing a top-quality number nine through the door this summer, a year on from Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich.

It is explained that while Champions League qualification would help the Lilywhites in attracting a top centre-forward, they plan to sign one regardless of whether they make it back into Europe’s premier club competition.

Santiago Gimenez the top target for Tottenham

CaughtOffside say that Tottenham are determined to beat out the competition to land Gimenez, who is having another prolific season at De Kuip, with 24 goals to his name across all competitions so far.

The report says that the Mexican international is their number one target and that their talks over a deal for the 22-year-old are now ‘intensifying’.

The publication adds that while Spurs are confident of getting a deal for Gimenez over the line, they are also monitoring other alternatives, including Dusan Vlahovic, Jonathan David, Evan Ferguson and Ivan Toney.

Spending £40m-plus on Gimenez will be a huge risk as there is no guarantee that he can translate his performances to the Premier League, which is a significant step up from the Eredivisie.

I believe it would be more prudent to spend that money on Jonathan David or perhaps even pay another £20m more to sign Toney.
