Report: Spurs now face competition from Chelsea for centre-back target

Football.London have claimed that Chelsea are now ready to challenge Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Jean Clair-Todibo.

It was widely reported a week and a half ago that Tottenham had begun making advances over a deal for Todibo and were keen to wrap up the transfer quickly (TEAMtalk).

However, over the last few days, multiple outlets have suggested that Nice are keen to hang on to the 23-year-old and Spurs have thus shifted their attention to Genoa’s Radu Dragusin instead (The Telegraph).

In fact, based on some updates in the last 24 hours, Spurs are now in regular contact with the Romanian international’s camp and are now confident of striking a deal with Genoa for the 21-year-old (Football Insider).

Chelsea and Spurs both want Jean-Clair Todibo

It turns out that Tottenham’s decision to turn their attention to Dragusin may have opened the door for Chelsea to move for Todibo.

Football.London now state that Mauricio Pochettino is keen on adding another centre-back to his squad in this month’s transfer window, with the Frenchman thought to be one of the names on the Blues’ wishlist.

Curiously, the report suggests that Spurs are very much still in the running for Todibo’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite clear that Tottenham have now abandoned their pursuit of Todibo and shifted their focus to Dragusin. However, if either Chelsea or Man Utd were able to sign the Nice star for around £40m-£45m, it would beg the question of how hard Spurs really tried to sign the 23-year-old.
