Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur face ‘strong competition’ from Juventus for Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips.
Just a few days ago, we relayed a report from TEAMtalk, which claimed that while Newcastle were leading the race for Phillips, Tottenham had not given up their pursuit of the midfielder just yet.
The report added that Spurs could ‘touch base’ over a potential January switch for the player shortly and that the Lilywhites are the most likely club to hijack the Magpies’ pursuit of the 28-year-old.
Juventus still in the running for Kalvin Phillips
However, if Football Insider’s latest report is to be believed, Juventus are ready to offer ‘strong competition’ to the two Premier League sides for Phillip’s signature.
The outlet claims that Spurs and Newcastle have identified the City star as an ‘ideal’ option to bolster their midfielder and that the pair are working behind the scenes on a potential deal.
However, the report explains that any potential deal hinges on whether the Premier League champions would allow for former Leeds star to join another English club.
The publication adds that City are likely to loan out Phillips as they are not willing to accept a huge loss on their £45m investment, with the Bianconeri now providing them an opportunity to offload the player without strengthening a rival.
Spurs Web Opinion
Realistically, I do not think Spurs stand much of a chance of winning the race for Phillips’ signature, unless Postecoglou offers the midfielder a guarantee of regular game time, which I highly doubt he would.
