Report: Spurs now facing competition from four clubs in race for 17-year-old

Tottenham are being rivalled by Barcelona in their pursuit for young Monaco midfielder Mamadou Coulibaly, according to Sport.

Coulibaly, 17, has been regarded as one of French football’s top prospects since his arrival in the league with The Monegasques.

Although the teenage midfielder has yet to make his bow in the Monaco first-team fold, he has appeared on the radar of plenty of clubs across Europe ahead of this summer.

Spanish outlet Sport reports that Barcelona are heavily interested in Coulibaly and view him in the mould of highly-rated Eduardo Camavinga, who completed a move to Real Madrid last summer.

Should he complete a move to the Catalan outfit, it is expected that he would slot into the renowned La Masia academy which has produced the likes of Pedri and Ansu Fati in recent years.

The same report also mentions that Spurs are one of the sides interested alongside Manchester City and Juventus, while AC Milan have been ‘directly linked’ of late. The Daily Mail also reported Tottenham’s interest last month.

Coulibaly is currently on a training contract with Monaco which expires beyond his 18th birthday, which will allow him to sign a professional deal before the summer transfer window opens.

At just 17, the fact that Coulibaly is attracting so much interest means there is a player there that is one for the future.

He is likely to only go for a small training fee too, so whoever manages to get him, including Monaco, will likely have a top player to help develop going forward.
