Report: Spurs now facing competition from three PL rivals for Pau Torres

Spanish publication Sport have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are facing competition from Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Torres has emerged as Tottenham’s number one target for the left centre-back role ahead of the summer, with Villarreal allegedly wanting a fee close to the centre-back’s release clause, which stands at £55m.

Sport have now revealed that Barcelona have had the centre-back ‘in their sights for years’ but the Catalan club do not have the financial means to sign him this summer.

Real Madrid are also said to be keeping track of the Spaniard but it is explained that Premier League clubs are leading the race for the Villarreal star.

Sport claim that Spurs have ‘not ceased their efforts’ to land Torres after having an offer rejected for the player last summer.

Chelsea have allegedly identified the 25-year-old as a replacement for Antonio Rudiger, while Manchester City and Manchester United are also thought to have their eyes on the central defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is anybody’s guess who Conte’s preferred option is for the left centre-back role among the likes of Pau Torres, Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol.

The one advantage we have over other suitors in the race for Torres, is the fact that Unai Emery’s men will be keen on snapping up Lo Celso on the back of his performances at El Madrigal.

We know that Paratici is a fan of part-exchange deals, and so, the Spurs managing director of football could include the Argentine as a makeweight in a bid for Torres.
