Report: Spurs now in concrete talks with player to terminate his contract

Multiple Turkish outlets are now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Ivan Perisic to terminate his contract, thus allowing him to leave the club as a free agent.

Perisic does not seem like a natural fit for Ange Postecouglou’s system, with the Australian preferring to set his teams up either in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, with inverted full-backs.

Unsurprisingly, multiple publications have suggested over the last couple of weeks that the Croat is one of the players expected to be offloaded by Spurs as part of their mass summer clear-out (The Athletic).

It emerged last week that the 33-year-old was of interest to Saudi Arabian clubs as well as Fenerbahce (Ben Jacobs – Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel).

Perisic could leave Tottenham as a free agent

Multiple Turkish publications are now reporting on Fenerbahce’s pursuit of Perisic and they suggest that the player could soon be a free agent.

This includes an update by Fanatik, who claim that Tottenham ‘are in talks to terminate’ the one-year left on the wing-back’s contract.

The report suggests that Fenerbahce are ‘waiting for these negotiations to be concluded’ so they can sign him on a free.

However, Aksam Spor state that Spurs terminating Perisic’s contract might not be good news for the Istanbul club.

They claim that if the former Inter Milan man is a free agent, that will mean that he will demand an ‘astronomical’ signing-on fee and would also make high salary demands since it would be the last big contract of his career.

The outlet adds that this is why Fenerbahce have ‘not yet taken any steps’ towards signing Perisic despite their interest in the player.

Tottenham are not going to get a significant transfer fee for Perisic, given his age and the fact that he has just a year left on his contract.

That is perhaps why the club have decided to mutually agree on termination and allow the Croat to decide his next destination.
