Report: Spurs now leading the race to sign 23-year-old Serie A star – £26.5m price tag

Alfredo Pedulla has revealed on his website that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to snap up AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo this month.

Multiple outlets have reported over the last few weeks that Spurs are prioritising signing an attacker and a right wing-back during the January transfer window (Football.London).

Over the last few days, Leandro Trossard has seemingly emerged as the club’s top attacking target, with Football Insider even asserting on Saturday that the Lilywhites are ready to submit a ‘big money’ offer for the winger.

However, Pedulla has now suggested that Antonio Conte’s men could look towards the Serie A to strengthen their frontline this month with a move for Zaniolo.

The journalist states that Roma could be open to cashing in on the winger, either during this month’s transfer window or in the summer. This is because the 23-year-old has just 18 months left to run on his contract at the Stadio Olimpico and there is said to be ‘no talk of renewal’ for the moment.

Pedulla states that Tottenham are in the ‘front row’ to snap up Zaniolo, with West Ham United and Nottingham Forest also allegedly monitoring the attacker, who is said to be valued by Jose Mourinho’s men value at around €30m (£26.5m).

He explains that Juventus and AC Milan have also ‘asked for information’ about the Italy international but adds that both clubs are only likely to consider a move for the player in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have to admit that ahead of the January window, I thought Zaniolo would be Tottenham’s top priority this month, given that the Roma star is a natural backup for Kulusevski on the right while also being able to operate centrally if required.

We also know that both Conte and Paraitici are fans of the Italian but perhaps they are having doubts owing to the winger’s injury record. It is also possible that Gil’s rise has made Spurs prioritise a left-sided attacker over a natural right-sided one like Zaniolo.
