Report: Spurs now making progress in negotiations for new striker

According to a report from The Times, Tottenham are now making progress in their negotiations with Inter Milan for Lautaro Martinez.

While some Spurs fans understandably got excited when reports first emerged last weekend that the club had agreed on a fee with Inter Milan for Martinez, the situation has seemingly changed since.

In what came as a blow to Spurs, the Inter striker’s agent admitted a few days ago that the Argentine will hold discussions with the Serie A champions over a new contract as he wishes to stay at the San Siro.

However, if the latest reports on the situation are to be believed, the Lilywhites still very much remain in the race for Martinez.

The Times claim that Tottenham’s talks with Inter over a potential £60m deal for the 23-year-old ‘are progressing’.

Meanwhile, FC Inter News have shed some light on Martinez’s contract discussions with the Nerrazuri, claiming that an agreement between the parties will not be straightforward.

The report claims the striker wants to sign a new contract at Inter but only if the club meet his wage demands.

It is asserted that the Serie A club are prepared to double Martinez’s salary but even that might not convince the striker to stay, amidst tempting offers from both Spurs and Atletico Madrid.

While some sources have indicated that Spurs want Martinez to partner Kane rather than as a replacement for the England captain, I certainly have a hard time believing that to be the case. I cannot see us spending upwards of £60m on a forward if Kane stays.
