Report: Spurs now want to block midfielder’s exit and tie him to a new contract

TuttoMercatoWeb have now reported that Tottenham Hotspur want to prevent Giovani Lo Celso from departing the club this summer and wish to tie down the Argentine to a new contract.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Lo Celso is one of a number of first-team players who are expected to exit Hotspur Way this summer (Football.London).

In fact, some Spanish outlets have suggested recently that the Argentina international is unhappy with his lack of game time at the North London club and is quite keen to return to his former club Real Betis (Estadio Deportivo).

Spurs to block Giovani Lo Celso exit

According to TMW, Tottenham now want to kill any chance of Lo Celso departing the club and are already working on a new deal for the midfielder.

The report claims that the 27-year-old remains part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans despite the fact that the Australian has used him sparingly this season.

It is revealed that Tottenham’s plan is to propose a two-year extension to Lo Celso’s current contract, which ends in 2025, and offer the player a salary hike in order to keep him happy.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can understand why Postecoglou might want to keep Lo Celso around as a squad player ahead of Tottenham’s return to Europe next season. However, I would be extremely surprised if the midfielder signs a new contract, given how little he has featured over recent months.
