Report: Spurs offer contract to Birmingham starlet but West Ham lead race

According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United are currently the front-runners to land Birmingham City defender Rico Browne who is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.

Browne has come through the youth ranks at Birmingham but is yet to make his first-team debut.

The report reveals that the 17-year-old’s deal with the Midlands club is set to run out in the summer and he has been given permission to talk to other clubs.

It is said that the centre-back had a trial at Spurs earlier in the season and the North Londoners were sufficiently impressed with his performances and decided to verbally offer him an 18-month contract.

However, Spurs reportedly did not follow that up with a written offer which opened the door for West Ham to swoop in.

Browne is reportedly on trial with the Hammers at present and it is said that David Moyes’ side are the favourites to land the youngster in the summer.
