Report: Spurs offer Lo Celso to Spanish side in potential player swap deal

Tottenham have offered Giovani Lo Celso to Sevilla in a proposed swap deal for defender Diego Carlos, according to Marco Conterio of TuttoMercatoWeb.

Argentina international Lo Celso has struggled for the majority of his stint at Spurs since joining the club in 2019 and has made just two Premier League starts this season (Transfermarkt).

The 25-year-old’s Spurs career was plunged into doubt last week after being omitted from the squad that suffered a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, despite confirming on Instagram his absence was not related to an injury.

The Evening Standard reported that Spurs are keen to offload Lo Celso to free up space in the squad for potential incomings ahead of next Monday’s transfer deadline.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed on Friday that interest had been received from Lyon to take Lo Celso on loan until the end of the season, while L’Equipe reported that an agreement had been reached between both parties.

However, a move to France is not concrete as of yet, with Conterio suggesting that Spurs have offered the midfielder to Sevilla in a swap for Brazilian centre-back Carlos.

The Italian journalist stated Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici was working on the deal alongside securing moves for Juventus pair Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

A translation of his tweet read: “Juventus asks 35 million for Dejan Kulusevski with obligation, Tottenham is at 1+30 with right. Spurs are also pressing on Rodrigo Bentancur, overtaking Aston Villa. Paratici works in these hours also for Diego Carlos: Lo Celso proposed to SevillaFC.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is going to be a busy few days for Spurs and it needs to be with the players they want to offload with so little time remaining. Lo Celso is one of the players that needs an exit from the club while Spurs have also wanted another centre-back, so he could be a makeweight in a potential deal.
